SEO packages for small business in India typically cost ₹8,000 to ₹20,000 a month for a starter plan, ₹20,000 to ₹45,000 for a growth plan, and ₹45,000 and up for e-commerce or multi-city work. What separates a fair package from a bad one is not the price but the scope: how many keywords, pages, locations and pieces of content you get each month, and whether the monthly report proves the work was done.
This guide breaks down each tier, shows you how to estimate your own cost with a simple worksheet, gives you a report format you can ask any agency for, and lists the red flags that show up in cheap packages. The price ranges are typical ranges reasoned from the hours involved, not a published rate card, so use them to sanity-check the quotes you receive.
What SEO packages for small business actually include
Almost every small business SEO package is built from the same five building blocks. Agencies simply bundle different quantities of each.
- Technical SEO: crawling and indexing checks, site speed, mobile issues, broken links, redirects, sitemaps and structured data such as LocalBusiness schema for your address, hours and phone number.
- On-page SEO: rewriting titles, meta descriptions, headings and body copy on your money pages so each one targets a clear search intent.
- Local SEO: setting up and maintaining your Google Business Profile, categories, photos, review replies and local citations such as Justdial and IndiaMART listings.
- Content: new blog posts, service pages or location pages, plus refreshing older pages that have slipped.
- Reporting: rankings, traffic and leads, explained in plain language once a month.
Link building or digital PR sometimes appears as a sixth item. At small business budgets it is usually light, and it is also where the riskiest shortcuts hide, which we cover in the red flags section below.
The three common package tiers
| Tier | Typical monthly range (India) | Keywords tracked | Pages optimised per month | Locations | New content per month | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter / local | ₹8,000 to ₹20,000 | 5 to 15 | 3 to 5 | 1 | 0 to 2 pieces | Single-location shops, clinics, salons, restaurants, local services |
| Growth | ₹20,000 to ₹45,000 | 15 to 40 | 5 to 10 | 1 to 3 | 2 to 4 pieces | Service firms competing city-wide or in two or three cities, B2B companies |
| Advanced / e-commerce | ₹45,000 to ₹1,00,000+ | 40+ or category-level | 10+ plus page templates | Multi-city or national | 4 to 8+ pieces | Online stores, multi-branch brands, competitive national niches |
Treat these as typical ranges, not quotes. They come from the hours each tier needs (see the worksheet below) multiplied by rates common among Indian freelancers and small agencies.
How much does SEO cost per month in India?
Indian SEO is inexpensive by global standards. When Ahrefs surveyed 439 SEO service providers about pricing, the most common monthly retainer overall was $501 to $1,000, while 76% of India-based respondents charged $1,000 a month or less. That ceiling is under ₹1 lakh at any recent exchange rate, and most affordable SEO services for small business sit well below it.
Within India, the price you are quoted mostly tracks three things:
- Who does the work. A solo freelancer has lower overheads but limited time to handle technical fixes, content and local work at once. A small agency splits the work across specialists, which costs more but rarely stalls when one person is busy.
- Competition. Ranking a bakery in Nagpur is a different job from ranking a property lawyer in Mumbai or a D2C skincare brand across India.
- Scope. More keywords, pages, cities and content mean more hours. This is the variable you control.
For reference, our own SEO service starts at ₹15,000 a month and covers on-page and technical SEO, 10 tracked keywords, monthly content optimisation, and rank and traffic reporting. You can compare it with our other services on the Timewheel pricing page.
Choosing the right small business SEO package
Pick a starter package if you serve one area
If most customers find you on Google Maps and your site has fewer than 15 pages, a starter plan that fixes technical basics, tightens your service pages and keeps your Google Business Profile active is often enough. Google's own explanation of how local ranking works names relevance, distance and prominence as the main factors. A starter package mostly works on the first and third: complete, accurate profile details, plus reviews and links that make you better known.
Pick a growth package if you want city-wide leads
Searches like "CA firm for startups in Pune" or "interior designer for 3BHK in Nagpur" need dedicated pages and steady content to rank. That pushes you into the range of two to four new pieces a month, along with more keywords to track.
Pick an advanced package if you sell online or run many branches
An online store with dozens of categories, or a brand in several cities, needs product and category templates, structured data at scale and careful internal linking. That is real engineering time. If the site itself is the bottleneck, it can be cheaper to fix the build first with a website development team and then start SEO on a clean foundation.
Not sure SEO should even be your first spend? If you need enquiries this month, Google and Meta ads work faster while SEO compounds in the background. Our digital marketing services page explains how the two fit together.
SEO costs calculator: estimate your package in five minutes
You do not need a fancy SEO costs calculator to judge a quote. Estimate the hours the work needs, then multiply by a sensible hourly rate. The hours per unit below are our working estimates for competent, honest work, not an industry standard, so adjust them if your niche is unusually competitive.
| Input | Estimated hours per month | Your number | Your hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base work: technical checks, Search Console review, reporting, monthly call | 6 hours flat | 1 | 6 |
| Keywords tracked | 3 hours per 10 keywords | ____ | ____ |
| Pages optimised this month | 1.5 hours per page | ____ | ____ |
| Locations (one Google Business Profile each) | 4 hours per location | ____ | ____ |
| New content pieces (1,000 to 1,500 words, researched and edited) | 5 hours per piece | ____ | ____ |
| Total hours | Add the column |
Multiply your total hours by a blended rate. We use ₹600 to ₹900 an hour as a typical range for Indian freelancers and small agencies. That sits comfortably inside the Ahrefs finding that 85.7% of India-based SEOs charge $30 an hour or less. Senior specialists and big-city agencies will charge more, and that can be worth it in tough niches.
Worked example 1: a single-clinic dentist
- Base work: 6 hours
- 10 keywords: 3 hours
- 3 pages optimised: 4.5 hours
- 1 location: 4 hours
- 1 article: 5 hours
That totals 22.5 hours. At ₹600 to ₹900 an hour, a fair price is roughly ₹13,500 to ₹20,000 a month. A quote of ₹3,000 for the same scope means some of that work is not happening.
Worked example 2: a services firm in two cities
Base work (6 hours), 30 keywords (9 hours), 6 pages (9 hours), 2 locations (8 hours) and 4 articles (20 hours) add up to 52 hours. At the same rates, that is about ₹31,000 to ₹47,000 a month, squarely in the growth tier.
The worksheet also works in reverse. If an agency quotes ₹10,000 and promises 8 articles, 3 locations and 50 keywords, ask how many hours that involves. The honest answer tells you whether the content is written by a person or churned out in bulk.
SEO monthly report format: what a fair report contains
The monthly report is how you check that a package is being delivered. A good one is short, compares this month with last month and the same month last year, and connects rankings to enquiries. Use this SEO monthly report format as your minimum standard:
| Section | What it should show | Data source |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Work done | Every change made, with page URL and date | Agency task log |
| 2. Search performance | Clicks, impressions, CTR and average position, month on month | Google Search Console |
| 3. Keyword rankings | Each tracked keyword: starting position, current position, change, and which page ranks | Rank tracking tool |
| 4. Traffic and leads | Organic sessions plus key events such as form fills, calls and WhatsApp clicks | Google Analytics 4 |
| 5. Local results | Profile calls, direction requests, website clicks, new reviews and replies | Google Business Profile |
| 6. Technical health | Indexing errors, Core Web Vitals, broken pages fixed | Google Search Console |
| 7. Content and links | Articles published or refreshed, links earned, all with URLs | Agency |
| 8. Next month's plan | Three to five priorities and anything needed from you | Agency |
Section 2 should use Search Console's own definitions. Google's Performance report documentation defines CTR as clicks divided by impressions and average position as the position of your topmost result. If an agency's numbers cannot be traced back to Search Console or Analytics, ask why.
Also insist on owning the accounts. Search Console, Analytics and your Business Profile should be in your name, with the agency added as a user. Google's guide on whether you need an SEO specifically advises giving an auditor read access, not write access, to Search Console.
Red flags in cheap SEO packages
Affordable SEO for small business is entirely possible. Cheap SEO that quietly damages your site is also common. Watch for these warning signs:
- Guaranteed rankings. Google states that no one can guarantee a #1 ranking, so a "page one in 30 days or your money back" offer is a warning, not a perk.
- "500 backlinks for ₹2,999." Google's spam policies list buying or selling links for ranking purposes as link spam. Bulk link packages are exactly that.
- 30 AI articles a month at a starter price. Mass-produced, unoriginal pages made mainly to manipulate rankings fall under what Google calls scaled content abuse. More pages is not more value.
- A "special relationship" with Google. Google does not accept payment for organic rankings, and advertising with Google does not change them.
- No list of work done. If the report only shows rankings and never the URLs that were changed, you cannot verify anything.
- They own your assets. An agency that creates your Business Profile or Search Console property under its own login can hold your listing hostage when you leave.
- Vanity keywords. Ranking first for a phrase nobody searches, such as your exact business name plus "best" plus your city, is easy and worthless. Check impressions in Search Console.
- Long lock-ins with no exit. Six to twelve months is a reasonable horizon for SEO, but you should still be able to leave on 30 days' notice if work is not being delivered.
- Cold emails promising top rankings. Google's own hiring guide compares unsolicited SEO emails to spam.
Questions to ask before buying SEO package services
Before signing, send every shortlisted agency the same set of questions. Comparing answers side by side is the fastest way to separate good providers from the rest. If you are local, our roundup of the top digital marketing companies in Nagpur is a useful starting shortlist.
- Can you show me a sample monthly report with client names hidden?
- Which exact deliverables will I get each month, in numbers?
- Who will do the work, and is any of it outsourced?
- What results do you expect at 3, 6 and 12 months, and how will we measure them?
- What happens to my accounts, content and links if I leave?
- Can you show case studies with before and after numbers?
On that last point, real case studies have verifiable numbers and a clear timeline. Our Occasion Cakes case study, for example, documents a UAE bakery going from about 70 to 218 online orders a month over five months of local SEO, and the Everything Powerlifting case study shows organic traffic tripling from 292 to 889 visits a month. Ask every agency for the same level of detail, the way we do on our case studies page.
Can you do affordable small business SEO yourself?
Partly, yes. Google's hiring guide notes that a small local business can often do much of the work itself, starting with the SEO Starter Guide. If your budget is under ₹8,000 a month, a sensible do-it-yourself plan looks like this:
- Verify and fully complete your Google Business Profile, including hours, photos and categories.
- Reply to every review within a few days, good or bad.
- Give each service its own page with a clear title and a few hundred words written for customers.
- Connect Search Console and check the Performance report once a month.
Paying for an affordable SEO service for small business budgets makes sense when you want consistent content, technical fixes you cannot do yourself, or growth beyond your neighbourhood. Many owners start with DIY and hire help once the basics are in place. If you do not have a website yet, the 30 Days, 30 Websites challenge builds one on a pay-what-you-want basis.

Frequently asked questions
How much do SEO packages for small business cost in India?
Typical ranges are about ₹8,000 to ₹20,000 a month for a single-location starter package, ₹20,000 to ₹45,000 for a growth package, and ₹45,000 or more for e-commerce and multi-city work. These are reasoned estimates based on the hours involved, not fixed rates. Your exact price depends on competition and how much content and how many locations you need.
What should a small business SEO package include?
At minimum: technical fixes, on-page optimisation of your main service pages, Google Business Profile management if you serve a local area, a set number of tracked keywords, and a monthly report. Growth packages add regular new content and more locations. Every deliverable should be stated as a number in writing.
What is a good SEO monthly report format?
A good report lists the work done with page URLs, then shows Search Console clicks, impressions, CTR and average position, tracked keyword rankings, organic traffic and leads from Analytics, Google Business Profile actions, technical health, and next month's plan. It should compare with last month and the same month last year, and every number should be traceable to a Google tool you own.
Is affordable SEO for small business worth it?
It is worth it when the price matches a realistic scope and the work is verifiable each month. A ₹10,000 to ₹15,000 package that fixes your site and keeps your Business Profile active can pay off for a local business. A ₹3,000 package promising hundreds of backlinks usually cannot deliver honest work at that price.
How long does an SEO package take to show results?
As a typical expectation, most small businesses see steady movement after three to six months, and longer in competitive niches. Technical fixes and Google Business Profile improvements can show earlier. Be wary of anyone who guarantees a ranking or a fixed timeline, since Google says no one can guarantee a top position.
Can I use an SEO costs calculator to compare quotes?
Yes. Add up estimated hours for base work, keywords, pages, locations and new content, then multiply by a typical hourly rate such as ₹600 to ₹900 for Indian freelancers and small agencies. If a quote promises far more output than its price can cover in hours, ask how the work actually gets done.
